Ghana Freedom Party Names Roman Fadda Flagbearer After Akua Donkor’s Passing

The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has chosen Roman Fada as its new flagbearer for the December 7, 2024, presidential elections, following the recent passing of its founder, Akua Donkor. The party’s executives in Kumasi made this decision on November 3, officially endorsing Fada as Donkor’s successor ¹[2).

Roman Fada, also known as Kwabena Agyeman Appiah Kubi, expressed his willingness to step in as the party’s flagbearer, saying, “If the law says I should be the flagbearer, why not… I am ready to take up the mantle” ¹. Before her death, Donkor had named Fada, her vice, as her successor.

The GFP’s constituency and national leaders unanimously elected Roman Fada to the party’s top position, respecting Donkor’s wishes. A party spokesperson expressed strong confidence in Fada’s leadership, citing full support from constituency and national executives.

Fada’s appointment marks the start of a new era for the GFP as it looks to uphold Akua Donkor’s legacy in the 2024 elections. Donkor was known for her bold presence in Ghanaian politics and unique governance style, leaving a lasting impact on the GFP. Her passing closes a major chapter, but her endorsement of Roman Fada as her successor reflects her desire for the party’s mission to continue.

Party members are hopeful that Roman Fada’s leadership will carry forward the values and vision that Akua Donkor championed throughout her political career.
