Ghana Football Association to Introduce VAR in Premier League

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans to introduce the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system in the Ghana Premier League, following a successful meeting with FIFA. This move aims to improve refereeing and the overall quality of the league.

GFA President Kurt Okraku revealed the news during the 30th Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence on Tuesday. “We have taken steps towards introducing VAR, especially in the Ghana Premier League. Our meeting with FIFA has gone well, and we look forward to this becoming a reality soon,” Okraku said.

The introduction of VAR is expected to minimize mistakes by match officials and enhance the accuracy of refereeing decisions in the league. Ghana first experienced VAR during the 2022 World Cup playoffs against Nigeria at the Baba Yara Stadium. Now, the GFA is committed to implementing this technology in the domestic league.

This development marks a significant step forward for Ghana football, promising more accurate and fair officiating in the Ghana Premier League.
