Ghana FA to Dissolve Black Stars Backroom Staff After AFCON Qualifier Failure
Ghana FA to Overhaul Black Stars’ Backroom Staff After AFCON Disappointment
Ghana Soccernet reports that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to dissolve the entire Black Stars backroom staff following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Under the leadership of head coach Otto Addo, the Black Stars failed to secure a spot in the continental tournament for the first time in two decades. Ghana finished at the bottom of Group F with three wins and three losses from six games.
Last month, the GFA held a lengthy meeting to review Otto Addo’s technical reports after the team’s poor performance. While the FA stated that consultations with external experts would precede a decision on Addo’s future, sources indicate the backroom staff will be completely restructured.
Otto Addo, who signed a three-year contract in March, now faces an uncertain future, with further announcements from the FA expected soon.
Despite the setback, the Black Stars will focus on their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. After four matches, Ghana sits second in Group I, tied on nine points with Comoros. The team will face Chad and Madagascar in critical Matchday 5 and 6 fixtures next year.
