Ghana Defender Jonas Adjetey Joins VfL Wolfsburg on Long-Term Deal

German Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg have completed the signing of Ghana international centre-back Jonas Adjetey on winter deadline day.

The 24-year-old has signed a long-term contract that will keep him at the Volkswagen Arena until 2030.

The transfer fee is reported to be in the region of €10 million.

Adjetey joins Wolfsburg from Swiss club FC Basel, where he made 15 appearances across all competitions this season and quickly established himself as a key defensive figure.

Wolfsburg sporting director Pirmin Schwegler welcomed the arrival, praising Adjetey’s attributes.

“Jonas is a physically strong player, quick and dominant in duels. He brings exactly the qualities we need in our defence,” Schwegler said.

“Over the past three and a half years at FC Basel, he proved himself both in the league and internationally. We have high expectations for Jonas and are convinced he will immediately strengthen our team.”

The defender, who has featured for the Black Stars in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, is expected to push for regular first-team football in Germany as he aims to cement his place in Ghana’s squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Adjetey becomes the latest Ghanaian talent to secure a move to one of Europe’s top five leagues, continuing the strong pipeline of Black Stars players heading to the Bundesliga.
