The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), in a coordinated humanitarian and security operation, successfully evacuated three Ghanaian traders who were injured in a terrorist attack in Titao, Burkina Faso, on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

The evacuation was carried out by the Ghana Air Force on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. The injured individuals were airlifted back to Ghana and immediately transferred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra for urgent medical assessment and treatment.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, February 18, the GAF extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families of those who lost their lives in the attack, prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

“The Ghana Armed Forces extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, prays for the repose of the souls of the deceased, and wishes the injured a speedy recovery,” the statement read.

The mission involved close collaboration among several government agencies, including:

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration

Ministry of Defence

Ghana Armed Forces

The swift evacuation underscores Ghana’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad, particularly in high-risk border regions affected by terrorism and insecurity.

The attack in Titao, which targeted a truck carrying Ghanaian tomato traders, reportedly involved selective shooting of male passengers while female passengers were spared. The incident has heightened concerns over the safety of Ghanaian traders using cross-border routes through northern Burkina Faso.

Investigations into the attack continue, with Ghanaian authorities working alongside Burkinabè counterparts to gather more details and support affected families.

The government has reiterated calls for citizens to exercise extreme caution when travelling through volatile areas and to adhere to all security advisories issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
