GFA Unveils Final 26-Man Black Stars Squad for 2026 FIFA World Cup

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially unveiled the final 26-man Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The squad, announced on Monday, features a blend of experienced internationals and emerging talents as Ghana prepares for its campaign on the global stage.

Leading the team are captain Jordan Ayew, Thomas Partey, Inaki Williams, Kamaldeen Sulemana, and Antoine Semenyo, all expected to play crucial roles in Ghana’s quest for success at the tournament.

The final squad comprises three goalkeepers, nine defenders, six midfielders, and eight forwards, reflecting what many observers describe as a balanced and competitive team.

Goalkeepers

Among the goalkeepers selected are Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, St. Gallen shot-stopper Lawrence Ati-Zigi, and Joseph Anang of St. Patrick’s Athletic.

Benjamin Asare’s inclusion is expected to excite local football fans, as he remains one of the few home-based players to earn a place in the squad following his impressive performances in the Ghana Premier League.

Defence

The defensive department combines experience and youthful energy, with Baba Rahman, Gideon Mensah, and Alidu Seidu leading the options at the back.

Also named in the squad are Marvin Senaya, Abdul Mumin, Jerome Opoku, Jonas Adjetey, Kojo Oppong Peprah, and Derrick Luckassen.

The presence of experienced defenders alongside rising talents is expected to provide depth and stability as Ghana looks to improve its defensive performances during the tournament.

Midfield

The midfield unit is spearheaded by Arsenal star Thomas Partey, who is widely expected to play a central role in controlling the tempo of matches.

He is joined by Elisha Owusu, Kwasi Sibo, Augustine Boakye, Caleb Yirenkyi, and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, giving the technical team multiple tactical options in both defensive and attacking midfield positions.

The inclusion of younger talents alongside established internationals highlights the team’s strategy of blending experience with youthful creativity and energy.

Attack

In attack, the Black Stars will rely on a formidable frontline led by Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, Antoine Semenyo, and Kamaldeen Sulemana.

Also included in the attacking setup are Christopher Bonsu Baah, Ernest Nuamah, Brandon Thomas-Asante, and Prince Kwabena Adu.

The attacking unit is expected to provide pace, creativity, and goal-scoring threat as Ghana aims to make a strong impression at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, with Ghana set to open its campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto before facing England and Croatia in subsequent group matches.
