GES Opens Promotion Applications for Non-Teaching Staff

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has opened applications for promotion to various upper grades for serving non-teaching staff.

The application window runs from September 14 to September 28, 2026, according to a notice signed by the Deputy Director-General in charge of Management Services, Prof. Smile Dzisi, on behalf of the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service.

The promotion exercise covers staff in the accounting, internal audit, administrative, catering, technical, librarian, supply, laboratory technician, secretarial and driver classes.

Positions available

Under the accounting class, eligible officers can apply for promotion to positions including:

  • Chief Accountant II
  • Deputy Chief Accountant I
  • Deputy Chief Accountant II
  • Principal Accountant

Similar upper-grade positions are available across the other classes, including Chief Internal Auditor II, Chief Administrative Officer II, Chief Domestic Bursar, Chief Technical Officer, Chief Librarian, Chief Supply Officer, Chief Laboratory Technician, Principal Private Secretary, Yard Foreman, Chief Driver and Principal Driver.

Eligibility requirements

The GES notice states that applicants must have been promoted to any of the specified grades in or before 2022 and must have remained continuously at post since that promotion, except during periods of officially approved absence.

Applicants must also have a very satisfactory work history and good conduct throughout their service with the Ghana Education Service.

Requirements for Master’s and PhD holders

Officers seeking to use Master’s or PhD qualifications to qualify for interviews out of turn are required to meet additional conditions.

The GES said the programme pursued must be included in the Service’s approved course of study.

“Masters/PhD program should be on the approved Ghana Education Service course of study,” the notice stated.

The qualification must also not have been obtained before the applicant’s previous promotion.

In addition, officers seeking to rely on Master’s or doctorate certificates must have obtained the qualifications in or before 2023.

Online application and supporting documents

Applications are to be completed online through the designated GES application platform.

Applicants are required to upload a recent passport-sized photograph, together with relevant promotion, upgrading or appointment letters.

Those relying on Master’s or PhD qualifications must also upload the appropriate certificate.

The GES said all supporting documents must be uploaded in PDF format, except the passport photograph, and must be clear and readable.

The application portal will close on September 28, 2026, and eligible non-teaching staff have been urged to complete their applications before the deadline.
