GES Implements Self-Placement System for Newly Qualified Teachers
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has launched a self-placement system for 12,720 newly qualified teachers who have completed their degree programs at colleges of education and passed their licensure exams.
After inviting applications for employment on May 11, 2024, the GES received over 20,000 applications from qualified teachers, with 12,720 successful candidates in the first batch.
These candidates must visit the Ghana Education Service portal between July 5 and July 31, 2024, to complete the self-placement exercise.
During a press conference at the GES headquarters in Accra on Thursday, July 4, the Director-General of GES, Eric Nkansah, explained that the self-placement system aims to address various challenges faced by teachers, including language barriers and financial difficulties.
“The self-posting recruitment model benefits newly trained teachers by posting them to regions where language will not be a barrier. They can speak the local language wherever they choose, creating a very effective teaching and learning environment,” he stated.
He added, “These individuals are required to visit the Ghana Education Service portal between July 5 and July 31, 2024, to complete the self-placement exercise. Additionally, the teachers can select schools close to their families, providing economic support.”
“The steps they need to follow to access the platform and select the school of their choice are available once they visit the GES promotion platform, the same platform used for their application,” he stated.
