GES Directs Ashanti Regional and Obuasi East Directors of Education to Step Aside

Management of the Ghana Education Service has directed Dr William Amankrah Appiah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, and Mr Kwamena Owusu-Nketiah, Obuasi East Municipal Director of Education, to step aside with immediate effect.
In a press release dated 20 October 2026 and signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations, the Ghana Education Service said the directive forms part of ongoing investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Mr Zakaria Abdulai.
The decision is intended to ensure that the investigations proceed without potential interference, nor the perception of it.
The two directors are to hand over their offices and all state property in their possession to the Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Mr Thomas Kwame Boateng.
The headmaster also remains interdicted. The public is therefore urged to ignore any news making the rounds that the headmaster has been cleared.
Management called for calm, support and cooperation as thorough investigation into the matter continues.
