: Germany Edge Black Stars 2-1 in Stuttgart Friendly – Late Goals Secure Win for Nagelsmann’s Side

Germany continued their strong form with a 2-1 victory over Ghana in an international friendly at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart on Monday night.
The match was tightly contested, but late goals in each half proved decisive for Julian Nagelsmann’s side, while Ghana were left to reflect on another disappointing result ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Match Summary
Germany started the game on the front foot, dominating possession and creating several clear chances. Florian Wirtz, Nick Woltemade, and Jonathan Tah all went close, but a goal by Wirtz was disallowed after a VAR review for offside.
The breakthrough finally came in the dying moments of the first half. Ghana defender Jonas Adjetey was penalised for handball after a flick from Angelo Stiller struck his arm inside the penalty area. Kai Havertz calmly converted the spot-kick, giving Germany a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Ghana showed improved energy after the break and deservedly equalised in the 70th minute. Abdul Fatawu Issahaku found the net with a well-taken finish following a brilliant assist from Derrick Köhn, making the score 1-1 and injecting fresh hope into the Black Stars camp.
However, Germany responded strongly in the closing stages. With just two minutes of regular time remaining, Deniz Undav scored the winner, restoring the hosts’ lead and securing a 2-1 victory.
Despite the improved second-half display and the equaliser, Ghana were unable to hold on for a point. The defeat means the Black Stars have now gone four matches without a win, having previously suffered heavy losses to Austria (5-1), Japan, and South Korea.
Coach Otto Addo will be concerned about defensive lapses and the team’s inability to close out games, especially with crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers on the horizon.
The result leaves Ghana with plenty of work to do as they continue their preparations for the global tournament.
