German Embassy Certifies Akosua Serwaa as Daddy Lumba’s Sole Legal Wife Until Death

The German Embassy in Accra has issued an official confirmation validating the marriage of the late highlife maestro Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, to Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, stating it remained legally intact under German civil law until his passing on July 26, 2025.
The consular statement, dated October 27, 2025, and signed by Second Secretary and Consul Susan Lüdtke, includes a certified copy of the marriage certificate (E 142/2004) from their December 23, 2004, ceremony in Bornheim, Germany.
“As far as the Embassy is aware, the marriage has not been dissolved by divorce but ended with the decease of the husband,” the document reads, issued under reference BR Nr. 988/2025.
This affirmation directly supports Akosua Serwaa’s claims in her ongoing Kumasi High Court injunction filed October 2 against family elder Kofi Owusu, Priscilla Ofori Atta (Odo Broni), and Transitions Funeral Home to block funeral proceedings that exclude her.
The ruling follows an October 24 Asanteman council meeting where Nkosuohene Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie declared Serwaa the only recognized widow, demanding proof from Ofori Atta—which was not provided. Lumba’s family, in an October 26 statement, already dismissed rival widow claims as “false and misleading.” The German verification, binding under international private law and Ghana’s Marriage Ordinance, could nullify any subsequent unions and secure Serwaa’s rights to burial rites and estate management.
Lumba, who died at 60 after a brief illness, leaves a legacy of over 30 albums but a contested estate amid health battles and family rifts. Serwaa and sister Ernestina Fosuh had sought German probes into his death. Legal analysts note the certificate strengthens her case under PNDCL 111 for intestate succession.
