George Afriyie: Black Stars Will Seek Revenge in Crucial Comoros Qualifier for World Cup Spot

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President George Afriyie has predicted that the Black Stars will approach their final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Comoros on October 12, 2025, at Accra Sports Stadium with a burning desire for revenge, aiming to avenge two prior defeats to the island nation.
Afriyie, speaking on Asempa FM’s Sports Nite on October 9, 2025, expressed full confidence in the technical team’s mindset: “I am 100% sure that the technical team will go for revenge against Comoros.”
Ghana, leading Group I with 22 points after a dominant 5-0 win over Central African Republic on October 8, needs just one point from the 19:00 GMT kick-off to secure a fifth World Cup appearance in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The Black Stars’ historical setbacks against Comoros—a 3-2 loss at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and a 1-0 defeat in Moroni during Matchday 2—have fueled motivation, with Afriyie noting, “I have seen improvement in the Black Stars.”
Coach Otto Addo echoed the sentiment, emphasizing focus despite the near-certainty of qualification.
Tickets, on sale from October 10 with a 3 p.m. deadline, are expected to sell out, as Ghana aims to cap a strong campaign—highlighted by recent wins over Mali (1-0) and CAR—on a high note.
Afriyie’s optimism resonates amid calls for more local players to access FIFA’s $355 million World Cup fund.
