GAF Dismisses Reports Claiming 60% of Military Applicants Tested HIV Positive

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has strongly denied reports circulating in sections of the media suggesting that about 60 per cent of applicants undergoing medical screening for military recruitment have tested positive for HIV.

In a press release issued by the Acting Director General of Public Relations, Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, the Armed Forces described the claims as false and misleading, urging the public to completely disregard them.

According to the statement, the medical screening process for applicants is still ongoing, and no official results have been released or declared, contrary to what has been reported.

“The medical process is ongoing and no results have been declared as at now,” the statement stressed.

GAF further described the publication as “fake news”, noting that it is taking steps to identify and trace the originators of the report, which it said was intended to misinform the public and tarnish the image of the Armed Forces.

The statement also served as a caution to media practitioners, particularly bloggers, vloggers and online content creators, to adhere to professional standards by verifying information before publication.

“The Ghana Armed Forces once again urges media practitioners, especially content creators and bloggers/vloggers, to be circumspect and crosscheck their facts before going to press,” the release added.

The Armed Forces reassured the public of its commitment to transparency and accuracy in its recruitment processes and advised that any official updates would be communicated through authorized channels.
