GAF Closes All Accra Recruitment Centres Except El-Wak Stadium Starting Monday

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that, effective Monday, 24 November 2025, all recruitment centres in Greater Accra except El-Wak Sports Stadium will be shut down for the ongoing 2025/2026 enlistment exercise.

All applicants who are yet to complete documentation and body selection have been directed to report to El-Wak Stadium for the continuation of the process.

The decision follows the deadly stampede at El-Wak on 12 November that claimed six lives and left dozens injured, prompting a major restructuring of the recruitment system for safety and efficiency.

In a related development, senior military officers who were directly overseeing the recruitment exercise have been asked to step aside to allow an independent and transparent investigation into the tragedy.

GAF has reiterated its commitment to the victims and their families:

  • Injured applicants continue to receive free medical care at the 37 Military Hospital.
  • A special recruitment package will be offered to fully recovered injured applicants.
  • Families of the six deceased recruits will also receive dedicated support packages.

The military has urged all applicants to strictly adhere to the new directive and cooperate with personnel at El-Wak to ensure an orderly and safe conclusion of the Greater Accra phase.
