Francis Asante, Self-Proclaimed Delta Force Leader, Arrested for Threats Ahead of Akwatia By-Election
Francis Asante, who claims to be the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the vigilante group Delta Force, was arrested on July 18, 2025, at a hideout in Barekese, Atwima Nwabiagya North district, Ashanti, according to GBCNEWS sources within the national security apparatus.
Known as Swanzy or Nana Kwasi, Asante faces charges over a viral video where he allegedly threatened to kill a prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) member during the upcoming Akwatia Parliamentary By-election, as retaliation for the NPP’s alleged abandonment of Delta Force members post-2016 elections.
Seen in military camouflage, Asante’s arrest is described as a proactive measure to protect lives and property during the polls. Arrangements were underway to transport him to Accra for court processing by 10 p.m. on July 18, 2025.
