Former Black Stars Defender Edwin Gyimah Battles Family Over Ownership of 8-Bedroom House He Built in Obuasi

Former Ghana international defender Edwin Gyimah is embroiled in a painful family dispute over the ownership of an 8-bedroom house he personally built in Obuasi, Ashanti Region.

In an emotional interview on Oyerepa Afutuo with host Auntie Naa, Gyimah revealed that after his football career ended, he has been left without a stable home, moving between friends’ houses and his in-laws’ residence, while his mother and sisters have taken full control of the property he constructed.

He alleged that one of his sisters even offered him GH¢50,000 to transfer the ownership documents into their names, claiming the house was built “for the family” and therefore belongs to them as a birthright.

Gyimah expressed deep disappointment, stating that the same family members he supported during his playing days are now the ones making life difficult for him, his wife, and their children.

He further claimed that he has been subjected to alleged spiritual attacks orchestrated by family members, which he believes contributed to his current struggles.

The former defender, who represented Ghana at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations, said the situation has left him heartbroken and questioning the meaning of family.

“Family should be your backbone, not the knife in your back,” he lamented during the interview.

The story has sparked widespread sympathy and debate on social media, with many Ghanaians expressing shock that a former national team player who gave his all for the country could face such family-related hardship.

No official response has been received from the family members mentioned in the allegations.

This case highlights the complex dynamics that sometimes arise in families when significant assets are involved, especially after an individual’s public career ends.
