Five Ghanaian MPs on Official Visit to Kenya Confirmed Safe by Parliamentary Service
The Parliament of Ghana confirms the safety of five Ghanaian legislators and an accompanying officer who were caught up during violent protests in Kenya while on an official visit to the Parliament of Kenya.
According to a statement issued by the Parliamentary Service of Ghana and relayed to the Ghana News Agency, the High Commission of Ghana in Kenya has assured the security and well-being of the delegation. The members, part of the Local Government Committee of Parliament, include Emmanuel Akwasi Gyamfi (Committee Chairman), Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye (Ranking Member), Sylvester Tetteh, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Mohammed Taferu, and Madam Anita Quartey Papafio (Senior Principal Assistant Clerk).
The delegation was participating in a benchmarking visit at the Kenyan Parliament when the incident occurred. They were promptly escorted to safety within the Senate building and later evacuated to their hotel by Kenyan Parliament officials.
The statement concluded with gratitude for public concern and assured efforts are underway to facilitate their safe return to Ghana.
