Fire Destroys Fashion Designer’s Shop in Akyem Oda

A fire has gutted the shop of a young fashion designer, Ampofo Michael, at Akyem Oda in the Birim Central Municipality, destroying industrial and hand sewing machines, sewing materials and other valuable items.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 21, 2026, leaving the entrepreneur counting heavy losses.

According to reports, the fire was noticed around 5:30 a.m. It quickly consumed several items used in his daily work, including an industrial sewing machine, hand sewing machines, sewn and unsewn materials, and other equipment. Most of the shop’s contents were left beyond repair.

The blaze has disrupted Michael’s fashion business and source of livelihood. Speaking after the incident, he expressed sadness over the loss and said he is struggling to come to terms with the destruction.

He is appealing to individuals, organisations and philanthropists for financial or material support to help him rebuild the business and resume work.

Community members who first noticed the fire and raised the alarm described the incident as heartbreaking and called on the public to support the young designer during this difficult period.

Ebenezer Frimpong, the Deputy Director for NADMO in Birim Central, visited the scene to assess the situation. He said a report would be submitted through the regional office to the national level in line with standard procedures.

The cause of the fire is yet to be officially established.
