Fire Destroys Boys’ Dormitory at Kadjebi-Asato SHS; Students Treated After Collapsing

A fierce fire gutted a room in the boys’ dormitory of Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School on Tuesday morning, December 2, 2025, destroying all belongings and leaving several students collapsing from exhaustion during frantic rescue efforts.

The blaze erupted around 9:00 a.m. and rapidly consumed the room, burning through the roofing structure before being brought under control. No casualties were reported, but dozens of students fainted due to fatigue and panic while trying to salvage items and assist in containment.

JoyNews Oti Regional Correspondent Peter Senoo reported that the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) response was severely hampered: the district’s only fire tender is currently out of service, forcing personnel to rely on makeshift methods.

“Nothing in the room was salvaged,” Senoo said, adding that the fire sparked widespread alarm across the campus.

School officials, staff, and local residents quickly mobilized to aid the affected students. All those who collapsed have since received medical attention and are recovering.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, with preliminary reports pointing to a possible electrical fault.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns over aging infrastructure and inadequate emergency resources in many public senior high schools across Ghana.
