Fire Destroys 14 Rooms in Compound House at Kukurizua, Bawku West

A devastating domestic fire outbreak has gutted 14 rooms in a large multiple-room residential compound house at Kukurizua, near Dastech, in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.

The blaze broke out on Tuesday morning, January 14, 2026, and rapidly spread through sections of the building before firefighters intervened.

Personnel from the Zebilla station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were alerted shortly after 10:00 a.m. and arrived at the scene within minutes. Their quick response prevented the fire from engulfing nearby structures and allowed four rooms to be salvaged.

The fire destroyed roofing materials, electronic appliances, household furniture, and other valuables in the affected rooms. However, mattresses, clothing, beds, and some personal effects were rescued thanks to the timely efforts of the fire crew.

No casualties were reported.

The GNFS confirmed that the fire was brought under control before midday and completely extinguished after sustained firefighting operations.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing to determine its origin.

Residents in the area have praised the GNFS for their swift and professional response, which averted what could have been a far more catastrophic incident given the close proximity of the compound house to other residential buildings.
