FC Barcelona Delays Camp Nou Roof Installation Until Summer 2027

FC Barcelona has decided to postpone the installation of the iconic roof at Spotify Camp Nou, a move that will require the stadium to close for several months during the work.

According to recent reports, the club has pushed back this phase of the massive renovation project until the summer of 2027, following the conclusion of the 2026-27 season. The roof installation is expected to take a couple of months, during which the stadium would be unavailable for matches.

This adjustment means the entire redevelopment of Camp Nou, including the addition of the 360-degree canopy, is now slated for full completion by September 2027. Barcelona plans to have the stadium operational with its full capacity of around 100,000 seats (without the roof) by the end of 2026, allowing fans to enjoy matches in a largely finished venue throughout much of the upcoming campaign.

The decision comes amid ongoing challenges and delays in the long-running project, which has already seen several timeline shifts. Club officials have emphasized the need to carefully schedule the roof work to minimize disruption, potentially avoiding a prolonged return to the temporary home at Montjuïc.

The renovated Camp Nou will feature state-of-the-art facilities, expanded seating, and the signature retractable roof as the crowning element of one of Europe’s most ambitious stadium transformations. Supporters can look forward to seeing the project reach its final stages in the coming years.
