Fake EACC Official Busted: Kennedy Ochieng Agutu Arrested for Extortion Scam

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has made a significant arrest, taking down a man who posed as one of its top officials to scam millions from Kenyans. Kennedy Ochieng Agutu was arrested at his South C hideout and is currently being held at Kilimani Police Station.

Agutu’s scam targeted high-profile individuals, including government officials, by claiming they were under investigation for corruption. He would then offer to “resolve” their cases in exchange for large sums of money.

The EACC has reported an alarming rise in imposters posing as its detectives, with over 350 cases recorded in 2024 alone. These scammers have set up fake EACC offices, particularly in Kakamega, Bungoma, and Busia counties.
