EOCO arrests 25 suspects, rescues 295 victims in fake QNET job scam

The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has dismantled a human trafficking and fake recruitment syndicate masquerading as QNET representatives, arresting 25 suspects and rescuing 295 victims lured with false promises of jobs, education, and travel opportunities.
The operation, conducted at locations in Kenyasi (Kwabre East Municipality) and Buoho (Afigya South District) in the Ashanti Region, uncovered the victims—mostly youth from various parts of Ghana—confined in makeshift camps after being deceived by recruiters posing as QNET officials. EOCO Anti-Human Trafficking Unit Head Staff Officer Dominic Mensah said the suspects targeted vulnerable individuals with “lucrative” offers, only to exploit them for labor or fees.
Mensah noted that shelters are being arranged for the victims, with reunification efforts underway. QNET Head of Compliance Theodocia Naana Bennieh Quartey condemned the fraudsters’ use of the company’s name, pledging stronger collaboration with security agencies: “We are committed to preventing such abuses.”
The suspects, including recruiters and handlers, face charges under the Human Trafficking Act, 2005 (Act 694), with court appearance pending. EOCO commended public tips that led to the raid, urging vigilance against scams.
