Emotional Scenes as Widow Akosua Serwaa Fosu Returns to Ghana Ahead of Daddy Lumba’s Celebration of Life

A large and visibly emotional crowd gathered at the Accra International Airport today to warmly welcome Akosua Serwaa Fosu, widow of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, as she returned to Ghana ahead of his upcoming Celebration of Life.

The arrival was filled with scenes of both joy and deep sorrow, as family members, close associates, fans, and well-wishers turned up in large numbers to receive her.

Among those present were Akosua Bempomaa (the musician’s grandmother), other relatives from Lumba’s maternal family, and veteran gospel musician Papa Shee, who has been a strong source of support and cheerleader for the widow since the musician’s passing.

Celebration of Life Details

The Celebration of Life for Daddy Lumba is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29, 2026. The event forms part of the funeral rites from the maternal side of the family and follows earlier burial arrangements that did not fully involve that lineage.

In honour of the iconic musician, specially designed “Celebration of Life” attire has been unveiled. The cloth carries the theme “Wo do nti Nyame nhyira wo” (Because of Your Love, God Bless You). The design features a beautiful dove set against a love-themed background, symbolising peace, affection, and the enduring generational impact of Daddy Lumba’s music.

Court Injunction Attempts

Organisers have confirmed that the Celebration of Life will proceed as planned, despite reports of several injunction applications filed at the Accra High Court by former family head Abusuapanyin Tupac Fosu.

Lasting Legacy

Daddy Lumba, widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest highlife musicians of all time, left behind an unmatched musical legacy that continues to inspire both locally and across the African diaspora. His death earlier this year triggered an outpouring of tributes from fans, musicians, and leaders across the country.

The upcoming two-day celebration is expected to draw large crowds as Ghanaians come together to honour the life and timeless contributions of the highlife maestro.
