Election 2024: Defence Minister Urges Military Officers to Maintain Political Neutrality

In a stern address at the Republic Day lecture organized by the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul emphasized the military’s critical role in upholding democracy and cautioned against partisan involvement. He stressed that the military’s primary duty is to safeguard the nation’s integrity, urging personnel to maintain strict political neutrality before, during, and after the December 7 elections.

“The military is the last bastion of our country’s hope,” declared Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul, highlighting the severe consequences if the armed forces were to lose public trust by aligning with any political party. He emphasized that such a breach could undermine democracy itself.

The lecture, attended by distinguished speakers including Mr. Opoku and Prof. Kwasi Aning, focused on the essential role of military impartiality in ensuring national security and stability. Madam Josephine Nkrumah and other luminaries echoed this sentiment, stressing the need for the military to operate independently of political influence to effectively discharge its duties.

This event marks the inaugural session of a series of public lectures planned by the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, aimed at fostering discourse on critical national security issues in the coming months.
