ECG to Commence Nationwide Meter Audit Exercise

The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited has announced that it will soon commence a Nationwide Meter Audit Exercise across all ECG operational areas as part of efforts to reduce commercial losses, improve revenue assurance and combat electricity theft.

The exercise will involve inspecting and verifying all prepaid and postpaid meters, Special Load Tariff installations, and associated wiring to confirm the integrity of metering systems and ensure accurate measurement and billing of electricity consumption.

This announcement serves as official notice of the exercise. No further prior notices, appointment letters or advance notifications will be issued. Accordingly, customers, landlords, estate managers, property managers, facility managers and security personnel are advised that the absence of a separate notification letter shall not be a basis for denying, restricting or delaying access to authorised ECG personnel.

ECG further reminds the public that Regulation 4(h) of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (Customer Service) Regulations, 2020 (L.I. 2413) provides that a consumer shall grant the employee of a public utility or agent of a public utility, safe and reasonable access to the premises of the consumer, subject to the production of a verifiable identity card, to read a meter or to check a utility equipment, where that employee or agent follows the procedure for grant of access prescribed in the Customer Charter of the public utility.

All ECG employees and authorised agents participating in the exercise will carry official ECG identification cards. Customers are encouraged to verify the identity of field personnel through the following channels before granting them access: the Customer Call Centre on 0302 611 611, or the *226# USSD Verification Code on all mobile networks.

The procedure for use of the USSD Verification Code is as follows: dial *226# on the mobile phone, select Option 5 – Verify Staff, enter the 6-digit verification code provided by the staff member, after which the staff member’s full name, region and district will be displayed, and then confirm that the information matches the staff member assisting.

For further information, customers may contact the ECG call centre on 0302611611 or the ECG social media handles via @ECGghOfficial.
