ECG Announces Four-Hour Power Outage in Parts of Tema Today for Critical Maintenance

Residents and businesses in selected areas of the Tema Metropolis are advised to prepare for a scheduled power interruption today, Sunday, March 8, 2026, as the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) carries out essential maintenance work on its infrastructure.
The Electricity Company of Ghana says the four-hour exercise is aimed at improving the quality and reliability of electricity supply across the Tema area. The planned shutdown is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the local power network and prevent larger disruptions in the future.
According to an official notice issued by ECG on Thursday, March 5, the maintenance will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The following areas and communities will be affected during this period:
McKeon
Sky Quarries
Westrafo
Immediate surrounding localities
The utility provider has apologized for the inconvenience the outage will cause to domestic and commercial customers. In its public announcement, ECG explained that these targeted interventions are necessary to address potential weaknesses in the system and to ensure long-term stability for the growing industrial and residential demands in Tema.
“The company has assured the public that the exercises are necessary to preempt more significant system failures and to ensure the long-term stability of the power network in the region,” the notice stated.
As Tema continues to expand with increasing commercial and industrial activity, ECG emphasized that regular maintenance and upgrades remain critical to meeting the metropolis’s rising electricity needs.
Customers in the listed areas are encouraged to make necessary arrangements ahead of the outage, such as charging devices and planning activities that rely on power. ECG urged affected residents and businesses to stay patient during the temporary interruption, promising a swift return to normal service once the work is completed.
Further updates or changes to the schedule, if any, will be communicated through official ECG channels.
