EC begins nationwide limited voters registration exercise today
The Electoral Commission in Ghana has announced that they are seeking to register approximately 623,000 first-time voters onto the electoral roll in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise. This exercise aims to ensure that all eligible citizens can register and participate in the upcoming elections.
The 21-day exercise commenced today [Tuesday, May 7] in all 258 district offices of the Commission. The exercise is expected to end on Monday, May 27, 2024.
The Electoral Commission has set up registration centres across the country to facilitate the registration process for first-time voters and additional 785 centres to cater for individuals who may have difficulty accessing the EC’s district offices. They have urged eligible individuals who have reached the age of 18 and are citizens of Ghana to come forward and register to exercise their democratic right to vote.
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa has also emphasized the importance of registering early to avoid any last-minute rush or issues with registration. She assured the public that the registration process is transparent and efficient, with measures in place to ensure the integrity of the voter roll and credible voter register as election 2024 beckons.
Overall, the Electoral Commission is working diligently to ensure that all eligible citizens have the opportunity to register and participate in the democratic process, ultimately strengthening the country’s electoral system.
