Donald Trump Sues BBC for £7.5bn Over Edited January 6 Speech

Former US President Donald Trump has filed a £7.5 billion lawsuit against the BBC, accusing the British public broadcaster of defamation and deceptive practices.

The lawsuit, filed in a Florida court, centres on a Panorama documentary aired more than a year ago, which Trump claims misrepresented and selectively edited his speech delivered on January 6, 2021. In that address, Trump urged his supporters to march to the US Capitol to protest the certification of President Joe Biden’s election victory.

According to court documents, Trump alleges the BBC acted “intentionally, maliciously and deceptively” by editing his remarks in a way that damaged his reputation and portrayed him as inciting violence.

The suit seeks £3.7 billion in damages for defamation and an additional £3.7 billion for alleged violations of trade practices, bringing the total claim to £7.5 billion.

The BBC has not yet publicly responded to the  lawsuit
