Diaspora Summit 2025: Resetting Ghana with the Diaspora as the 17th Region

Ghana is hosting the Diaspora Summit 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre, bringing together high-level government officials, global diaspora leaders, investors, and development partners to chart a new course for national development under the theme “Resetting Ghana: The Diaspora as the 17th Region.”

The two-day summit, running from December 19 to 20, is headlined by President John Dramani Mahama, alongside cabinet ministers, parliamentarians, traditional leaders, and prominent members of the Ghanaian diaspora from across Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

The summit seeks to reposition the Ghanaian diaspora as a strategic development partner—conceptualised as the nation’s 17th Region—and to deepen collaboration in areas such as investment, skills transfer, technology, governance, tourism, and cultural diplomacy.

Organisers say the event will serve as a platform for frank dialogue on policy reforms, diaspora engagement frameworks, and mechanisms to unlock diaspora capital for sustainable economic growth. Key sessions are expected to focus on easing investment barriers, strengthening remittance impact, dual citizenship opportunities, and expanding diaspora participation in national decision-making.

Speaking at the opening session, government officials reaffirmed their commitment to building stronger institutional links with Ghanaians abroad, describing the diaspora as a critical force in Ghana’s economic reset and long-term transformation agenda.

The Diaspora Summit 2025 forms part of broader efforts to harness global Ghanaian expertise and resources to accelerate development, promote innovation, and reinforce Ghana’s position as a leading destination for diaspora-led growth
