Derrick Kohn’s Uncle Questions Black Stars Selection After World Cup Squad Omission

Eric Akwasi Agyei, the uncle of Derrick Kohn, has criticised the decision to leave the Ghana national football team defender out of Ghana’s provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking during an interview on Peace FM, Agyei expressed disappointment over the omission and claimed he would not encourage his own child to represent Ghana under what he described as the current system.

He also dismissed reports suggesting Kohn’s absence was due to an incomplete nationality switch from Germany to Ghana.

“The nationality process has already been completed,” he stated, reinforcing earlier comments made by Kohn’s brother, Michael.

Derrick Kohn, who plays for 1. FC Union Berlin, has previously featured in friendly matches for Ghana and is officially eligible to represent the Black Stars in FIFA competitions following the completion of his nationality switch.

However, Agyei hinted that factors beyond football performance may have influenced the player’s exclusion from the squad, suggesting possible unfairness in the selection process.

His comments have sparked fresh debate among football fans regarding player selection and transparency within the Black Stars setup ahead of the World Cup campaign.
