Daddy Lumba’s Legal Wife and Children Seek Court Injunction to Halt Unauthorized Funeral Plans

The family of legendary highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, known as Daddy Lumba, has filed an urgent injunction against announced funeral arrangements for the late icon, claiming they were made without their consent and in violation of legal marriage rights.

In a press statement released on October 9, 2025, Lumba’s first (legal) wife, Akosua Serwah Fosuh, and their children described the public announcement of a December 6, 2025, burial date as “deeply distressing,” noting they first learned of it via social media. Represented by Mrs. Fosuh, the direct family accused Abusuapanyin Kofi Wusu and a supposed funeral committee of acting unilaterally, showing “a complete lack of respect” for the widow, who is still grieving and arranging travel from Germany to Ghana.

The statement highlighted ongoing marginalization of Mrs. Fosuh since Lumba’s death on July 26, 2025, in Accra at age 60. It affirmed their 2004 marriage in Bornheim, Germany, under German law, where bigamy is prohibited per Section 1306 of the German Civil Code (Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch), rendering any subsequent unions “legally void.” The cause of death remains under investigation.

The family has sought legal intervention to pause all funeral and burial activities “until proper dialogue and consensus are achieved,” urging fans to disregard unofficial announcements. “We kindly ask you to disregard any unofficial announcements regarding funeral arrangements,” the release stated, promising a “respectful and dignified farewell” befitting Lumba’s legacy of over 30 albums and hits like Aben Wo Ha, Theresa Abebrese, and Yentie Obiaa.

Lumba, a highlife pioneer whose music spanned four decades, passed amid tributes from across Ghana and the diaspora. The dispute, unfolding publicly, underscores tensions in posthumous arrangements for public figures, with the family appealing for patience from “Lumba fans and music lovers across the world.”

As the injunction hearing looms, the saga highlights the complexities of cultural, legal, and familial dynamics in Ghanaian celebrity farewells.
