Daddy Lumba’s First Wife and Sister Demand Independent Investigation Into His Death

The family of the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, known as Daddy Lumba, has called for a transparent and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death on July 26, 2025, citing three conflicting accounts that have left them distressed and seeking closure.

In a statement dated October 13, 2025, Akosua Serwaa Fosuh—Lumba’s legally wedded wife since their 2004 marriage in Germany—and his elder sister Ernestina Fosuh expressed deep concern over the discrepancies, urging the Ghana Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to probe the matter thoroughly. The family, who share four children, has formally contacted the German Embassy in Accra, the Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt – BKA) in Wiesbaden, and the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin for assistance, submitting medical reports, correspondence, and records from Transition Funeral Home.

The conflicting narratives include:

An eyewitness account of Lumba calling a friend to his residence on the night of the incident, only to be denied access by a woman living with him, followed by news of his death hours later.

A police and coroner’s report stating Lumba, a known diabetic, died at Bank Hospital after an MRI scan under anesthesia at Sunshine Diagnostic Centre triggered severe pain.

Accounts from Priscilla Ofori (Odo Broni), Lumba’s second wife, initially claiming an injection at Bank Hospital caused his death, later contradicting herself by saying he died at home and she dressed the body before transporting it to the hospital.

“These contradictory versions have left the family deeply concerned and distressed, raising serious questions about the true cause of death and whether proper medical and investigative procedures were followed,” the statement reads. They specifically urge the CID to question Priscilla Ofori and Lumba’s manager, Philip Kwabena A. (Roman Fada), to uncover the truth.

The family’s plea comes amid an ongoing funeral dispute, where Akosua Serwaa filed a lawsuit on October 3, 2025, at the Kumasi High Court seeking recognition as Lumba’s sole spouse and an injunction against the December 6 burial plans announced by the family, who recognize Odo Broni as the legitimate wife. Lumba, 60, succumbed after a brief illness, leaving a legacy of over 30 albums and hits like Aben Wo Ha and Yentie Obiaa.

“We have confidence that both the German and Ghanaian authorities will work together to uncover the truth, ensure justice, and bring transparency to this painful situation,” the family concluded, appealing for patience from fans.
