Court Remands Bright Aweh in Murder Case of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah

Bright Aweh, also known as Robert or Highest Bright, appeared before the Kaneshie District Court in Accra, charged with the murder of Ghana Immigration Service officer Stephen King Amoah.

Aweh’s plea was not taken, and he was remanded in police custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for August 8, 2025, to allow further investigations, as requested by Chief Inspector Apewa Achana.

Amoah, a 38-year-old officer, went missing on July 3, 2025, after leaving his Ashongman Estate home to meet Aweh, who allegedly sent WhatsApp images of cash bundles to settle a GH¢200,000 debt. His charred body was found on July 9 in a gutter near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate, Kwabenya, bearing stab wounds and burns, suggesting an attempt to conceal the crime.

Aweh, arrested as the last person in contact with Amoah, admitted to giving him GH¢500,000 but provided conflicting statements about the money’s source.

Family members, wearing red and black attire with “Justice for Stephen King Amoah” inscriptions, attended the emotionally charged hearing, demanding justice. Amoah’s grandmother called for Aweh to face the same fate as her grandson. Gamel Abubakar, a friend of the deceased, commended the Ghana Police Service for its thorough investigation. The case, initially treated as a kidnapping at Kwabenya Circuit Court, was reclassified as murder and transferred to Kaneshie District Court for its broader jurisdiction.
