Court Remands Abronye DC into Custody for Failing to Surrender Passport

Accra, Ghana – The Accra High Court has remanded the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, into police custody after he failed to surrender his passport as part of his bail conditions.

The Criminal Division of the High Court issued the order on Thursday, June 4, 2026, after dismissing an application filed by Abronye seeking a variation of the bail terms imposed on him in his ongoing criminal case.

The court observed that the NPP regional chairman had not complied with the directive to deposit his passport with the court registry. Consequently, the earlier relief granted was revoked, and he was ordered to remain in custody until he fulfils the condition.

Abronye DC was not present in court when the ruling was delivered.

He is facing a charge of false publication. Last month, the High Court granted him bail following an earlier remand, with one of the key conditions being the surrender of his passport and other travel documents.

His failure to meet this requirement led to the application for variation, which the court rejected outright.

The ruling highlights the judiciary’s firm stance on adherence to bail conditions. The substantive case is expected to continue at the Circuit Court, where proceedings on the false publication charge are ongoing. The matter has been adjourned to July 14 for the prosecution to file its disclosures.

This development marks a significant turn in the legal battle involving the outspoken NPP regional chairman.
