Construction Begins on Somanya–Dodowa Road as Government Launches Yilo Krobo Road Projects
Construction has officially commenced on the Somanya–Dodowa Road and several inner roads in Somanya, following a groundbreaking ceremony led by Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, and the Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo, Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey.
The projects, located in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region, are expected to address some of the municipality’s long-standing road challenges while improving connectivity and supporting economic activities in the area.
Contractor Warned Against Shoddy Work
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Ampem Nyarko cautioned the contractors against shoddy work and urged them to execute the projects according to the required standards.
He explained that under the government’s Big Push policy, contractors are expected to receive payment promptly, within three months of submitting their certificates.
The Deputy Finance Minister therefore urged residents to actively monitor the projects and hold the contractors accountable for the quality of work.
He stressed that residents have the right to raise concerns whenever the work falls below the required standards.
Mr Ampem Nyarko also assured residents that the Ministry of Finance would release funds promptly to support the smooth and timely execution of the projects.
MCE: Yilo Krobo Receiving Its Fair Share
The Municipal Chief Executive for Yilo Krobo, Francis Akumatey, said the municipality was fortunate to have several of its citizens serving in government.
According to him, their presence in government has helped the area lobby for additional development projects.
He said the municipality was gradually receiving what he described as its fair share of the national development agenda.
Regional Minister Highlights Road Challenges
The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, said most roads in the Yilo Krobo Municipality were in deplorable condition.
She commended the Presidential Advisor on the Economy, Seth Terkper, for his role in ensuring that the municipality benefited from significant development projects.
The Regional Minister expressed confidence that completing the road projects would improve transportation, support agricultural activities and stimulate other economic activities within the municipality.
MP Says Project Fulfils Campaign Promise
The Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo, Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey, said the project fulfils a commitment he made to residents during the 2024 election campaign.
He said he promised the electorate that, if given the mandate, he would lobby for the construction of the municipality’s deplorable roads to provide relief to residents.
Traditional Authority Pledges Support
The Paramount Chief of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area, Oklepeme Nuer Anorbah Sasraku, assured the Member of Parliament and the contractor of the traditional authority’s full support for the successful completion of the projects.
He called for continued collaboration between traditional authorities and government to accelerate development in the area.
The commencement of construction on the Somanya–Dodowa Road and the inner roads has been welcomed as a significant intervention for the municipality, with residents hoping the projects will be completed on schedule and deliver lasting improvements to transportation, agriculture and economic activity across Yilo Krobo.
