The Wamfie Child Development Centre of Compassion, in partnership with the Church of Pentecost, has donated 160 mono desks together with 10 teachers’ tables and chairs to the Wamfie Roman Catholic Basic School in the Dormaa East District.
The donation forms part of efforts to support the school and address its furniture challenges, which have affected teaching and learning.
Speaking to Adiyia FM’s Newsman, Odehyieba Nanasei Sempremo, the Project Coordinator of Compassion, Mr. Lawrence Obeng, said the organisation has partnered with the Church of Pentecost to support needy children in the district.
He explained that Compassion regularly holds meetings at the Roman Catholic Church and, through their engagements, realised that the school was facing a serious shortage of furniture, with some pupils struggling to get desks to sit on during lessons.
Mr. Obeng said the organisation therefore decided to support the school with the furniture and appealed to management, teachers and students to take good care of the items to ensure their longevity.
On behalf of the Roman Catholic Church and the school, Rev. Fr. Monsignor Boakye Gyan expressed appreciation to Compassion for the gesture.
He urged teachers to guide the students to handle the furniture responsibly and ensure that the desks and chairs are properly maintained and put to good use.
Meanwhile, the Dormaa East District Director of Education, Mr. Phillip Adom Danso, also expressed his gratitude to Compassion for the donation.
He said the district continues to face furniture challenges, adding that although he had received several promises from philanthropists and organisations to support schools with furniture, many of those promises had yet to materialise.
According to him, Compassion has so far become the first NGO to fulfil its promise of providing furniture to the school.
Mr. Adom Danso expressed hope that other individuals and organisations who have pledged to support schools in the district would also fulfil their promises to help create a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.
