Communications Minister orders NCA to shut down 7 radio stations

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has just announced the closure of seven radio stations across the country.

This decision was made to ensure that all radio stations comply with broadcasting regulations and national security requirements.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, February 18th, the Minister explained that he has directed the National Communications Authority Ghana to suspend and prohibit the broadcast of these seven radio stations.

One of the stations was shut down due to national security concerns, while the other six were found to be operating without valid frequency authorization.

The Minister’s decision comes after a recent frequency audit, which aimed to identify and address any irregularities in the broadcasting sector.

The directive is effective immediately, and further action is expected to be taken in the coming days.

The Minister emphasized the importance of media regulation and urged all media houses to adhere strictly to the conditions of their frequency licenses.

He reiterated his commitment to sanitizing the airwaves and ensuring that all media houses comply with the law regarding frequency authorizations.
