Commercial Transport Operators Warn Drivers Against Traffic Violations Ahead of Christmas

Commercial transport operators have cautioned drivers to strictly observe traffic regulations during the Christmas festivities, warning that those who flout the law risk arrest and prosecution by the police.

The union said drivers found engaging in drunk driving, excessive speeding, wrongful overtaking, or any other dangerous conduct likely to cause road accidents would be reported to law enforcement agencies without hesitation.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News, the Acting National Chairman of the union, Asonaba Nana Wiredu, said transport operators are targeting an accident-free Christmas and expect members to exercise maximum discipline on the roads.

He disclosed that the union plans to deploy monitoring officers randomly along major highways to supervise the conduct of commercial drivers during the festive season. According to him, any driver found violating traffic regulations will be handed over to the police for appropriate action.

The union also cautioned drivers against charging unapproved or excessive fares, stressing that such practices would not be tolerated during the Christmas period.

“I would advise drivers to be cautious on our roads. Don’t drink and drive, respect road signs, no wrong overtaking, and don’t take substances to drive,” Mr Wiredu urged.

Meanwhile, the association commended the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) for maintaining relative stability in fuel prices throughout the year, noting that it has helped ease the financial burden on commercial drivers and transport operators.
