Cedi Trades at 11.09 to Dollar, Sells at 11.10 on December 29 – BoG

The Ghanaian cedi traded at a buying rate of 11.09 to the US dollar and sold at 11.10 on Monday, December 29, 2025, according to figures released by the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
Official BoG data showed the cedi buying at 11.0945 and selling at 11.1056 against the dollar on the day. The British pound traded at a buying rate of 14.9819 and sold at 14.9980, while the euro bought at 13.0675 and sold at 13.0793.
The exchange rate performance follows renewed government assurances aimed at strengthening the local currency. President John Dramani Mahama has attributed recent gains in confidence in the cedi to the efforts of the current leadership of the Bank of Ghana.
Speaking at the Cedi at 60 International Currency Conference in Accra on November 18, President Mahama noted that the cedi has regained public trust, with more goods and services now priced in local currency rather than dollars. He encouraged the central bank to sustain measures that promote stability and confidence in the cedi.
Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr Johnson Asiama, also called on Ghanaians and institutions to play their part in safeguarding the currency. He stressed that protecting the cedi is a shared national responsibility, not the sole duty of the central bank.
Dr Asiama further cautioned against holding foreign currency in anticipation of cedi depreciation, describing such practices as unhelpful to currency stability. He emphasized that beyond its economic role, the cedi represents national pride and collective aspirations for Ghana’s future.
