Carlos Queiroz Calls for Unity and Sacrifice Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Carlos Queiroz has outlined a passionate vision for Ghana national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stressing that talent alone will not guarantee success unless players, officials and fans unite behind one common goal.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Beyond The Whistle, the experienced coach said winning at World Cup level requires sacrifice, discipline, preparation and teamwork.

“It’s easy to say, ‘I want to win the World Cup,’ just like many people want to buy a private jet,” Queiroz stated. “But you have to be ready to pay the price to achieve those dreams.”

The former Portugal and Iran coach explained that nations succeed on football’s biggest stage only when they are fully committed to the demanding process required for victory.

Queiroz revealed that he has intensified efforts to understand Ghana’s local football structure and identify talented home-based players with support from the Ghana Football Association.

According to him, a special observation programme has already helped him assess several local players within a short period.

“I went deeper to know some of the local players,” he noted. “We put this programme in place so I could see the best players and understand local football much faster.”

The Black Stars coach also delivered a firm message on discipline and unity within the national team setup.

“Nobody will be above the team,” he declared. “Everybody must play with only one thing in mind — Ghana, the pride of the nation and the happiness of the people.”

Beyond player selection and tactics, Queiroz highlighted the importance of modern football preparation, including fitness, nutrition, physiotherapy and tactical organisation.

“We have to put the right preparation in place — training, diet, nutrition, physios, fitness, and the details of set pieces,” he added.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be co-hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico, with Ghana hoping to make its fifth appearance at the tournament.
