Businessman Attempted to Pay for Ministerial Nominee’s Approval, Reveals Mahama Ayariga

Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader in Parliament, has made a shocking revelation that a businessman recently tried to mobilize funds to support a ministerial nominee’s approval process, despite there being no requirement for such payments.

This comes after allegations by lawyer and activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor that ministerial nominees were being asked to pay bribes in exchange for parliamentary approval. Ayariga dismissed these claims and called on Barker-Vormawor to provide proof.

According to Ayariga, he met with the businessman who said they wanted to “help” their minister, but he immediately shut down the idea, warning that such mobilization was unnecessary and would not be accepted. The Appointments Committee, Ayariga stressed, operates with integrity and does not demand money from nominees.

Ayariga also pointed out that with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) having a majority in Parliament, there is no incentive for such payments, as they can approve nominees without needing to accept bribes. He encouraged anyone with evidence of bribery to come forward, saying that the committee would deal with it openly and transparently.

This revelation has sparked a heated debate about corruption and transparency in Ghana’s political processes. While some have expressed skepticism about the allegations, others have called for a thorough investigation to ensure that the appointment process is free from corruption.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Barker-Vormawor will provide evidence to support his claims, and how the Appointments Committee will respond to these allegations. One thing is certain, however: the Ghanaian public is watching closely, and demanding transparency and accountability from their leaders.
