Buduburam: 8-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Abandoned Manhole

An 8-year-old boy has died after falling into an open manhole at Blue Rose Estate in Buduburam, Gomoa East District, Central Region.
The boy, Elijah Success Kaba, was with his 15-year-old cousin, Andrew Jallo, when they both fell in while trying to get water. Andrew is in critical condition at St. Gregory Catholic Hospital.
Firefighters from Buduburam station arrived within 10 minutes and rescued both boys. Sadly, Elijah died during treatment.
Station Officer DO II Samuel Derry Moro told Citi News:
“We got the call and reached the scene fast. We saved the older boy, but the younger one did not make it. We worked with local elders to follow proper customs during the rescue.”
Residents blame the estate owner, Blue Rose Limited, for leaving the manhole open. They want it filled or moved to higher ground to stop more accidents.
One resident said:
“We beg for this manhole to be closed or relocated. It’s dangerous for our children.”
