Black Stars Suffer Rankings Blow After Underwhelming AFCON Qualifiers

Ghana Falls to 70th in FIFA World Rankings

Ghana’s Black Stars have experienced a significant decline in the latest FIFA World Rankings, sliding from 64th to 70th globally. This drop comes after the team’s disappointing performances in the recent 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

In their first two matches, Ghana suffered a 1-0 loss to Angola at Baba Yara Stadium and was held to a 1-1 draw against Niger in Berkane. As a result, the Black Stars currently occupy third place in Group F.

Several countries, including Georgia, the United Arab Emirates, Albania, Cape Verde, and Burkina Faso, have leapfrogged Ghana in the standings. The Black Stars have also slipped two positions in the continental rankings, now ranked 14th.

Morocco has taken the top spot in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rankings, followed closely by Senegal. Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, and Tunisia complete the top five.

Will the Black Stars bounce back in their upcoming matches against Sudan in October?
