BLACK STARS IS IN GOOD HANDS WITH CHRIS HUGHTON – RYAN BERTRAND
Ryan Bertrand-Former Chelsea defender has expressed his confidence in the coaching abilities of Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton.
His comments comes in the wake of criticism directed at Hughton following the Black Stars’ disappointing performance in international matches in the United States in October. Black Stars suffered a 4-0 defeat to the USA and a 2-0 loss to Mexico. The team’s performances in both games were widely criticised, with poor defending and a lackluster attack that produced only two shots on target over the two matches.
The underwhelming results have led some to call for Hughton’s removal as head coach before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. However, Ryan Bertrand, who won the Champions League 2012, believes there is no need for concerns, expressing his full confidence in Hughton’s capabilities.
“I think the last two tests in the USA and Mexico were good tests, different styles of football and different opposition, and I feel they are in great hands under Chris Hughton. I am sure by the time the tournament comes up, they will be ready.” Bertrand stated,
Hughton will aim to turn things around in November when the Black Stars face Madagascar and Comoros in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Following these matches, the focus will shift to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to start in January 2024. In the group stage, the Black Stars will compete against record-holders Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.
