Black Stars Coach Otto Addo Urges Ghanaians to Rally Behind 2026 World Cup Dream
Otto Addo Rallies Ghanaians to Support Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup Quest
Black Stars coach Otto Addo is calling on Ghanaians to fully support the national team as they strive to secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This plea comes in the wake of the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following a 1-1 draw against Angola last Friday. Despite the disappointment, Addo remains resolute, urging fans to focus on the future and the crucial World Cup qualifiers ahead.
“I understand that people are disappointed, maybe angry. I was also disappointed, but surely we have to move on now,” Addo said during a press briefing on Sunday.
He stressed the importance of preparation and national backing: “We need to do our best to prepare for the World Cup qualifiers, and it starts tomorrow. If you [Ghanaians] want us to go to the World Cup, you need to support us.”
Ghana currently holds second place in Group I of the World Cup qualifying campaign, tied on points with group leaders Comoros. With only the top team advancing to the knockout phase, every match is crucial.
Looking ahead, the Black Stars will face Chad and Madagascar in March 2025, key fixtures that could define their World Cup journey. Addo is determined to make history by becoming the first coach to lead Ghana to consecutive World Cup appearances.
The road to the 2026 World Cup may be challenging, but Addo’s call serves as a rallying cry for all Ghanaians to stand united and support the Black Stars in their pursuit of glory.
