Binduri Bloodbath: 5-Year-Old Boy and Two Adults Gunned Down in Family Home, Radio Manager Wounded Amid Bawku Conflict Spillover

Unidentified gunmen unleashed terror in Sakpari village, Binduri District of Ghana’s Upper East Region, on Sunday evening, October 26, killing three people—including a 5-year-old boy and two adults—and injuring two others in a brazen attack on a family residence.

The assault, occurring around 6:30 p.m., has heightened fears of spillover from the protracted Bawku chieftaincy conflict, with residents fleeing and security forces scrambling to restore order in the Burkina Faso-border enclave.

The victims, identified as the boy, his uncle, and another household member, were shot at close range inside their compound, with the child succumbing instantly alongside the adults. Among the wounded is George Bukari, manager of Binduri-based Maxx Empire FM, who sustained a hand injury and is receiving treatment at a local clinic.

“The gunmen, two men on foot, invaded without warning, firing indiscriminately before fleeing,” recounted community leader Abdul Salam, noting no resistance was possible due to the assailants’ armament.

The attack, the latest in a wave of violence claiming 13 lives in the area over two weeks, is suspected to stem from ethnic tensions linked to the Bawku crisis, which has displaced thousands since 2021 and spilled into Binduri with reprisals.

In a chilling escalation, the residence of Binduri MP Yussif Mahamud in Aniisi was torched at dawn Monday, October 27, with no arrests yet but suspected reprisal. “This morning, we woke up to the MP’s house in flames—anger boiled over,” Salam added, as locals barricade homes fearing more strikes.

The Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA) in Bawku condemned the killings, demanding a motorbike ban, increased troops, and MP intervention, as Binduri—flanked by Burkina Faso’s jihadist threats—sees daily patrols ramped up.

Recent horrors include Garu’s October 20 NHIA office shooting (four dead) and a Tempane farmer’s throat-slitting on October 25
