Bibiani GoldStars Knocked Out of CAF Champions League with 5-0 Loss to JS Kabylie

Bibiani GoldStars’ first-ever CAF Champions League campaign ended in disappointment on September 28, 2025, as they suffered a crushing 5-0 defeat to Algeria’s JS Kabylie in the second leg of the preliminary round in Tizi Ouzou, resulting in a 7-0 aggregate loss.

The Ghana Premier League champions, already trailing 2-0 from the first leg in Accra, faced a nightmare start when goalkeeper Emmanuel Kobi scored an own goal just seven minutes in. Ryad Boudebouz doubled Kabylie’s lead midway through the first half, and Mehdi Merghem’s strike after the break tightened the hosts’ grip.

The Miners’ hopes faded further in the 60th minute when defender Emmanuel Ankrah received a red card, leaving them with 10 players. JS Kabylie capitalized ruthlessly, with Lahlou Akhrib netting a fourth goal soon after and Oualid Maliki sealing the rout in stoppage time.

With their continental dreams dashed, GoldStars now turn their focus to defending their Ghana Premier League title. JS Kabylie, meanwhile, advances confidently to the next round of the competition.
