Bawumia Unveils Plan to Boost Youth Employment, Promises 1 Million ICT Jobs

Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has unveiled a plan to boost youth employment in Ghana, promising to create 1 million jobs in the ICT sector.

Speaking during his campaign tour of the Tema constituencies in the Greater Accra Region, Dr. Bawumia noted that the government has created 2.1 million jobs since 2017, but acknowledged that more work is required to address the growing demand for employment opportunities.

To address this challenge, Dr. Bawumia outlined several youth-focused policies his administration would implement if re-elected. These include:

– Constructing a digital hub in Ghana to serve as a catalyst for job creation in the tech sector
– Training 1 million youth in ICT, including senior high school graduates and school dropouts, to provide them with digital job opportunities both in Ghana and abroad
– Introducing a new business-friendly tax regime to incentivize the private sector, including tax amnesty and a flat tax rate to stimulate private sector growth and generate more jobs
– Further investing in technical and vocational training, a sector that has seen significant support under the Akufo-Addo administration in recent years

Dr. Bawumia emphasized that his administration is committed to creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive, which will in turn create more job opportunities for the youth.
