Baba Yara Stadium Ready for Black Stars’ AFCON Qualifier Despite Concerns

The Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi is on track to host Ghana’s crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Angola on September 5, according to Kwame Baa, the Ashanti Regional Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA). Despite concerns about the stadium’s condition due to recent non-sporting activities, Baa reassured fans that the venue will be ready for the big match.

The NSA has been working tirelessly to ensure the stadium’s readiness, managing resources from the Kumuyi program to cover essential expenses like water and electricity bills. Baa expressed confidence in the team’s efforts, saying, “We have managed the little resources… to ensure your dear Baba Yara Stadium is at a point where we can all be very proud of.”

The match, scheduled for September 5, will be officiated by Rwandan referee Samuel Uwikunda and his team. Ghana, seeking to end a 43-year AFCON drought, faces pressure to secure a home win before traveling to Niger for their second match.

With the 2025 AFCON tournament set to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, the Black Stars are eager to make a strong start in their qualifying campaign.
